From the Civil War to the frontier, this is the story of how Lucas McCain became The Rifleman. Lucas invents his famous modified rapid-fire Winchester rifle. He has a baby son he names Mark — but his wife dies when Mark is just four years old. Lucas and Mark move west to land granted him for his service as a Civil War hero. Together, Lucas and Mark help the Indians and save the Buffalo from rustlers. Lucas signs on to guard a mule train of gold from bandits. He joins Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and saves both Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley.
